Fig Painting Contest with a Terrain Twist…

Well I have been entertaining the idea about having on fig painting contest with a terrain twist on the forum. Have a contest open to anyone who has a log in on the forum. Sadly enough the prize will only be for anyone in the USA. Have a contest where you can just paint a fig and win but if you include some terrain to enhance the fig you can obtain more points and win over someone who just painted a fig. It can be a small pieces of terrain, kind of like a small diorama. It could also be a fig on terrain. Part of the contest rules would be showing progress pictures of both and explanations of what you are doing. You could actually win without having the best painted figure. The idea is to have good results but show how you got there. The prize would be a painted figure from me (you would have to provide the fig) of a human sized miniature. If that is not worth it then I guess you don’t enter. Anyway more information is on the forum.

Warlord on Saturday…

I have decided to go ahead and throw the pictures up from the huge battle we had on Saturday. I would like to touch on a few things. We had the Dwarves, Reptus and Nefsokar at 2,000 points each. I was the Nefsokar. The first of the game my first battle came when a giant canary flanked me and then got blasted by my Mage taking four hit points. I then made the mistake of trying to finish it off with my Dust Devil. That was stupid. He died and dirty death and I didn’t have anyone who could finish off the stupid chicken wing. I lost a unit to some lizards and watch two Raptors sit there for several turns getting eaten by bugs next to the lake. My Walking Avatar chick was getting attacked left and right out in the middle of the mix but she lingered on for a while. Thoth was great for me. He did some havoc before biting it. Another great moment is when I hit Kung Pow, Reptus mighty Warlord with my Mage blasting him with multiple hits and then watching him fall to an arrow from the dwarve (stupid ignore tough roll). I did lose Ammat to some pig rider which was a major bummer but, he did take out a bear before dieing. Ammat with a bunch of mummy’s are not to shabby if I must say so myself. After 1:00 am in the morning came we rapped it up. I still had my Warlord and his unit going strong but I feel he was going to take a beating the next turn if we had time. That was a very fun fight I must say. I still hate archers though whether they are snakes or leaf eaters, don’t care which.

You can follow the thread for this here

Here are some pictures from the battle.

Building Bones for Five Fingers

Well I have two buildings that have their bones complete except for the roofs. I have several squares drying. My plan is to make the bones to all of my buildings first. Mass production kind of idea I guess. Then after than I will begin making molds for doors, window and what ever else I dream up. I want a complete city board. No buildings will be attached to the board. I am not going to do like I did on the Menoth board and make roads built into the board.

Burger Bar, It has been a while…

The other day we took a drive to a neighboring town to give ourselves a treat. We don’t go to the Burger Bar much any more but man that was good. This place was featured on Drive Inn’s, Diners and Dives on the Food Network. It is not super fancy but it is good and has tons of memories. Now we will have to find another place to venture out and treat ourselves too. Maybe Lucky China in Roy. MMmmm!!!

Hill and Rough Terrain

We had a game of Warlord last night and I don’t have very much basic terrain. Well that was motivation to paint some stuff that I have already started. These are progress shots and not the terrain is drying down stairs.

Warlord on a Saturday night…

As the summer/fall slows down my Saturdays are starting to free up. This Saturday we are planning to do some painting and get in a game of Warlord or two. Maybe get a couple of reptiles on a spit and possibly a big canary as well. I picked up a Dust Devil to deal with a certain flying pest, a giant mosquito if you will.

Actually I am fairly new to this game so I expect to get my lunch handed to me on a silver platter. I will give it a good run for my money though.

Another thing I plan on doing is a terrain project for the Terrainthralls contest next year. I am going to do the Five Fingers port or something similar to it. I have a few things I will have to tackle first but it should be a fun ride. Once it gets going I am going to post progress pictures. I need to get going because before I know it the contest will be over. Plus I am up against some serious competition.

Hunting Cats from Reaper Mini’s

I just finished some Hunting Cats for Warlord. These figs are for a friend that we did trade. These were really fun to paint. I did most of the painting with a series of washes.

Death Watch Space Wolf Inquisitor Conversion

I did this conversion about 4-5 years ago. I found some pictures so I thought I would post them up. I am still nervous about painting it however. This is a Games Workshop Inquisitor model (Death Watch Brother Artemis). When I get some solid techniques on painting then I will give it a go.

Water Tower Terrain Tutorial

Water Tower

Materials
Pringles Can
Plastic Sucker Sticks
Nails
Masonite
Super Glue
Chains
Gears
Plastic Styrene
Paint
Turf
Static Grass
India Ink
Rubbing Alcohol
Paintbrush
White Glue
Balsa wood strips
Green Stuff
Toilet Paper

Well we have a steamed powered world so I decided to do some surfing of the web to find a look that I liked. This is what I came up with. Hope you enjoy

I started out by cutting out the base out of Masonite and filed down the edges. I created a hexagon template out of paper so I could create the base template so I could arrange the nails for the sucker sticks. I glued the nails down in a hexagon formation. Once dry the Sucker Sticks were glued on them.
___
I cut the Pringle Can down to about three and a half inches. The Balsa Wood Strips were then applied to the Pringles can. This was done using white glue making sure not to let any of the glue show through.  Once this was done the plastic styrene strips were glued around the wood. The framework was also completed below. The top water tower was then attached to the framework.
The top was made out of sheet styrene cut into a large circle. The circle was cut from the center to the edge. Once the cut was made I made a cone from the styrene and glued it together with super glue. I then applied styrene strips to the roof to hide the seam and create the look I was after. The water pipe was made from one of the sucker sticks and applied with green stuff and toilet paper. The ladder was made with a homemade jig out of balsa wood and styrene.
After everything was assembled I made rivets with a hole punch that was one sixteenth in size. I then applied the rivets with super glue.
____
After this was all done and the rivets were applied it was time to ink the wood. I made a mixture of one part India ink and about thirty parts rubbing alcohol. I tested the mixture on spare balsa wood to make sure I had the look I wanted. I applied the first coat and let dried and then went back and touched it up where I thought it needed it.
___
After this was all done I painted the metal with boltgun metal, I did a black wash over it all and then painted some rusting effects. I applied the static grass and some miscellaneous grasses and brush. I know this is a quick toot so if you have any questions let me know.
